Khaqani: A Mystic Poet of Persia

Khaqani was born in Shamakhi, Azerbaijan, in 1121. He was a precocious child, and by the age of seven he had already memorized the Qur'an. He studied Islamic law and theology, but his true passion was poetry. He began writing poems at a young age, and by the time he was twenty he was already a well-known poet.

Khaqani's poems are characterized by their rich imagery, complex symbolism, and profound insights into the human condition. He was a master of the ghazal, a form of Persian poetry consisting of rhyming couplets. His ghazals often explored themes of love, loss, and the search for God.
